Kurt Plinke, Artist and Naturalist |

Trap Door, original transparent waxed watercolor in gray frame. Frame opening size 6" x 9" Painted en plein air.
"Not far from the studio, an overgrown, dusty lane leads to the remains of an abandoned farm. A house and outbuildings sit there, in the process of becoming reclaimed by the brush and vines that fills the barnyard. In a recent trip down the lane, I set up my easel and painted the door to the pump house. Broken and caving in, the door still was usable, at least for an enterprising spider. The glistening web contrasted with the dark interior of the pump house.
I was stuck by the little web, and by the series of verticals and horizontals that filled this little painting, as well as the contrast between the textured, weathered boards and the deep rich darks of the building interior. "
