Welcome to the Watercolor & Egg Tempera Artwork of Kurt Plinke

Living on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Kurt has learned to move in time with the seasons, recording what he sees in his intricate watercolors, egg tempera paintings, and plein air work.  Many of his images are created from memory or imagination, while others are painted on site.

Kurt will be at Ocean City, Maryland during the second week of August (Wednesday, Aug 12 - Sunday, Aug 16) as part of Artists Paint OC.  If you are in Ocean City, look for him. Kurt will be out and about all that time, painting en Plein Air. Click here for details.
All paintings from the competition will be posted on Kurt's "Between the Waters" blog, and will be for sale!

What is a waxed watercolor? Kurt Plinke has been experimenting with alternative ways to display watercolors, gouaches and and other paper-grounded mediums without the use of mats and glass.  One of those ways is by adding a layer of rubbed wax to the surface of the painting after it is completed. Wax protects the work from moisture and adds an almost "leathery" look to the finished painting.
