"Downriver from the studio, in a little cul-de-sac called Smuggler's Cove in Greensboro a rickety moss-covered old dock is waiting for the next flood to take it. Herons, like the little green heron in the painting, use the old pier as a perch, waiting for small fish to venture too near the surface. I like the scene because of the juxtaposition of soft mossy boards and water."
