Thursday evenings, October 7th through November 11th...
6:30 pm until 9 pm. In this 6-week series of classes, we will look in-depth at the concepts of design, the elements of art and how to use these ideas to make our paintings better. We'll especially look at color, texture and line, and how these elements of art can be manipulated to create better paintings. This series will help any painter create more interesting art.

Saturday, July 31st, 11:00 am - 4:30 pm. blue and green metallic-looking feathers will be the focus as well the creation of the illusion of speed as we paint this gorgeous little swallow. Sweeping low over a field of grain, we'll paint this bird in a semi-vignette style, with a mostly white background. Challenging for more advanced students, but still easy for beginners, this will be a lovely chance to add rich colors and delicate strokes to a painting.
Saturday, August 28th, 11:00 am - 4:30 pm. We'll look at painting the prow of The Nathan, a skipjack moored in Cambridge. We'll use a variety of sources of reference. Moving water, reflections and the beautiful lines of a skipjack will be our focus. A lot of emphasis on contrast should make this an interesting painting for any budding or seasoned watercolorist.
Saturday, September 25th, 11:00 am - 4:30 pm. We'll bring Fall flowers into the studio as we paint whatever is in bloom, as well as a male Blue Grosbeak. Similar to a Bunting, but bigger and with more vivid markings, the Blue Grosbeak is a common but seldom noticed bird on the Eastern Shore. This should be a great painting for all levels of watercolorists.
Saturday, October 23rd, 11:00 am - 4:30 pm. Both Doves and Pumpkins remind me of Fall, and this painting will be a combination of the two. We'll paint a scene of a rutted dirt road, lined with pumpkins, as several Mourning Doves drink from one of the water-filled ruts. This is an ambitious painting, and we'll have to work fast to finish it. We'll be looking at depth, reflections and textures as we work to finish this painting.
